Boston Scott, a running back who spent most of his six-year NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles, announced his retirement from professional football on October 9, 2024, via a statement on his Instagram account.[1][2]
Scott, listed at 5-foot-6, played college football at Louisiana Tech University after beginning as a walk-on at Louisiana State University. The Eagles selected him in the sixth round (215th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft.[3]
Over 75 games with Philadelphia from 2018 to 2023, including 12 starts, Scott rushed 246 times for 1,295 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also recorded 86 receptions for 707 yards and 3 touchdowns, and contributed on special teams as a kick and punt returner.[4] Scott earned the nickname "Giants Killer" for strong performances against the New York Giants, including 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns in a 2021 NFC wild-card playoff victory.[4][5]
In Super Bowl LVII on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Scott had two carries for 4 yards as the Eagles lost 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs.[4][6]
Scott's last regular-season NFL game came in 2023 with the Eagles. He signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams on March 14, 2024, but was released on August 27, 2024. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad on September 24, 2024, and was released on October 8, 2024.[3][7]
In his retirement statement, the 29-year-old Scott expressed mixed emotions, writing: "There is so much I’m proud of... I’m thankful for the coaches, teammates, and staff throughout my career that believed in me even when it wasn't popular."[1]
Off the field, Scott has partnered with Dignitas, an esports organization, as a content creator.[1][2]
